The World Boxing Council (WBC) in conjunction with Guinness World Records , recognized Oscar De La Hoya among other boxing greats at the 49 th World Boxing Council Annual Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada on Monday.
De La Hoya received two Guinness World Records for his storied career – Highest Career Pay-Per-View Sales by a Boxer ($696 million) and Most Wins Consecutively Middleweight Title Defenses (20).
De La Hoya commented on his honor by saying, “It’s incredible. The hard work that we did inside the ring has really paid off. Thank you to Guinness World Records for acknowledging me and giving me this opportunity.”
Boxing legends Mike Tyson , Julio Cesar Chavez, Floyd Mayweather, Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko will also be awarded throughout the week with Guinness World Records certificates for their remarkable boxing triumphs chronicled in the best-selling Guinness World Records book.
Last year’s World Boxing Council Annual Conventionheld in Cancun, Mexico, saw WBC President, Jose Sulaiman and promoter Don King recognized for their record designations including’Longest Serving President of a Global Sports Organization’ and the’Promotion of Highest Paid Attendance at a Boxing Match’.
