Heavyweight contender Frank Sanchez believes he made the right decision by reuniting with trainer Eddy Reynoso and Team Canelo Alvarez.
Sanchez returned to the ring last Saturday night, with a first round blowout of Daniel Martz at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The bout was part of the undercard to the junior middleweight clash between Sebastian Fundora and Brian Mendoza.
“I am very happy getting together with Reynoso and Canelo,” Sanchez said to George Ebro “They have always been very special to me and from the moment they saw me arrive they hugged me as if I had never left. They reinforced the idea that soon I will be world champion.”
For reasons beyond his control, Sanchez left Team Canelo to go to Los Angeles where he was placed under the orders of respected Hall of Fame trainer in Joe Goossen, who prepared the Cuban boxer for a fight in October of 2022 against the Puerto Rico’s Carlos Negrón.
While acknowledging Goossen’s meritorious work, Sanchez never stopped thinking about the good times under Reynoso’s aegis and did not rest until he returned to his former teacher, with whom he had established a very fluid and successful communication.
“I feel that Reynoso and I have excellent chemistry and that is something that helps a boxer a lot, especially when he is in an important place. On the other hand, you have a Canelo Alvarez who spends time with you, puts his arm over him and tells you that you are going to be champion. That is something that motivates me a lot.”
Sánchez (22-0, 15 KOs) caught the attention of the heavyweight division when he notched the best victory of his career in October 2021, by outboxing and dropping previously undefeated Efe Ajagba en route to a unanimous decision victory.
