Mercedes-AMG G63 Reinvented: An Off-Road Icon Transformed into a One-of-a-Kind Masterpiece

The Mercedes-AMG G-Class modifications by Brabus are already very familiar, but the latest product that has just been launched is extremely “unusual” when creating an off-road vehicle based on the Mercedes-AMG G 63 platform. This model called Brabus 900 Crawler almost only retains the front design of the G-Class and completely removes unnecessary details.

With no doors and many other radical changes to the original, this car is no longer street legal. However, this is not a barrier for Brabus because their goal is to build unique cars.

This car is capable of conquering all types of terrain with an impressive ground clearance of 53 cm. Models like the Ford Bronco and Jeep Wrangler only have a maximum ground clearance of 29.4 cm and 27.4 cm respectively, much lower than the parameters that the Brabus 900 Crawler possesses.

The Brabus 900 has been upgraded with the Portal Axle system, 4-wheel drive with indirect transmission through gears with independent differential locks for each axle and spring shock absorbers. The car’s suspension has been fine-tuned, the car is equipped with a spring system that can move up to 16 cm to help the car easily conquer harsh terrain. The car is equipped with a set of 40×13.50 R20 black off-road tires and a disc brake system measuring 400mm in the front and 370mm in the rear.

In terms of overall design, almost all the basic details of the G 63 have been removed, the team only kept the design of the front of the car as well as the body panels. The car is installed with a new protective frame system to ensure safety for the driver and passengers. The car doors as well as the rearview mirrors have been removed.

The interior of the car has also been almost completely simplified, retaining the digital display and central entertainment screen and the AMG steering wheel typical of high-performance Mercedes-Benz models. In addition, all the original seats have been replaced with four separate sports seats.

After removing many body panels and using carbon fiber for the parts that remain, the AMG G63 has lost a lot of weight. The car now weighs just 2,065 kg and has been strengthened by the addition of a steel frame and Portal Axle system.

The car has a reworked V8 engine and increased capacity to 4.5L twin turbocharger, giving a capacity of up to 888 horsepower and maximum torque increased to 1,250 Nm, but Brabus actively sets the electronic limit at 1,050 Nm to ensure the durability of the 9-speed automatic transmission. The car is capable of accelerating from 0 – 100 km / h in just 3.4 seconds. On flat terrain, the car can reach a maximum speed of 160 km / h.

The Crawler starts at €793,000, and Brabus plans to build just 15 of them, with a third of them to be delivered by the end of the year. Five more will be built in 2023, and the final five will be sold in 2024.
