I firmly believe such behavior is learned at home, often among parents who are not fond of animals and treat them unkindly.
Recently, in Erie, Pennsylvania, a group of kids were caught using a tiny, terrified kitten as their ‘ball’ in a game of catch on the streets.
Luckily, a brave police officer was nearby, determined to put an end to their cruel play.
When Police Officer Martin was informed that kids were tossing a kitten back and forth, he rushed to the tiny feline’s aid.
Upon his arrival, he found the kitten visibly terrified. Officer Martin scolded the kids and gently scooped up the innocent feline, taking him to the ANNA Shelter, a nonprofit rescue organization in Erie, Pennsylvania.
The vet, Dr. Zeigler, immediately took the kitten and thoroughly examined him. Thankfully, his bones were not broken despite being cruelly tossed around.
However, the kitten was in a state of shock and had an upper respiratory infection.
The staff at the shelter took excellent care of the little guy, whom they named Oreo, inspired by his black and white fur. They administered his medication and showered him with the love he so clearly deserved.
All along, Officer Martin regularly checked on his new friend Oreo. However, within just five days, the brave policeman decided to take the next step and adopt little Oreo.
ANNA Shelter shared Oreo’s story on their official Facebook page, informing their followers about the happy news:
“Officer Martin stopped in a few times to check on this little baby we named, Oreo. Well…on Saturday he decided to officially become Oreo’s dad AND hero!”
They also added:
“We thank him and all of our animal-loving officers who keep us and the animals safe every day! Oreo will grow up safe and happy thanks to Officer Martin!”
Officer Martin didn’t just save Oreo’s life once – he did it twice! First, when he rescued the terrified kitten from those mischievous kids, and again when he chose to give Oreo a forever home.
I’m overjoyed that Oreo found his hero in such a compassionate and kind-hearted person. Here’s to many joyful years ahead for Officer Martin and Oreo, together!
