Unless you were the Sultan of Brunei, your colour palette for a new Ferrari F40 in the 1980s would have been relatively limited. The car was only available in Rosso Corsa. Thankfully, in recent years owners have become more daring with colour and individual creativity, proving just how well the Maranello original looks in bright blue or dark green.[MOU2] Another well-known protagonist of this movement to give the supercar a new coat of paint is the 1991 Ferrari F40 – known as the ‘Minty Forty’. Originally delivered to a German customer with chassis number 88538 and, as you might expect, in ‘Rosso Corsa’, the car was involved in an accident in the late 1990s. Although the F40 was restored to factory specification, the original paint job somehow fell by the wayside. Fast forward to 2021, when the Ferrari’s last owner took it in and decided to have the car painted in a bright mint green. This shade may seem striking at first, but true Ferraristi will know that Stirling Moss’ famous Ferrari 250 GTO was dipped in exactly this shade of Verde Pallido – a piece of history that this F40 evokes.

This impeccable and invigorating Ferrari F40 has been maintained by Schaltkulisse since 2022 – now it will go under the hammer at RM Sotheby’s Monterey auction on August 16. Its proceeds are estimated at the equivalent of 1,739,488.00 – 2,288,800.00 euros, and the Matching Numbers F40 is accompanied by a matching 1:18 scale amalgam model.

By the way: If you like this look as much as we do, but don’t have the means to bid on the Monterey pairing, you can buy “Minty Forty” as a limited edition amalgam model in the CD Shop. And that would dramatically increase your budget for the finest mint ice cream at your favorite gelateria!
