A rare and endangered species of parrot limited to high elevations in the central Andes of Colombia. Its plumage is a golden green hue with a sapphire crown, while the blue and red of the wings and tail are usually visible when perched and become even more striking in flight. These parrots are usually found in groups of several to a dozen birds that fly gracefully from one fruit tree to another in compact flocks. Once very elusive, in recent years a more reliable sighting of these birds has been observed along the mountain roads high above the town of Santa Rosa de Cabal.
