A melanistic fox, one of the rarest animals on the planet.
Over the course of two months, photographer Sam Gaby gained the trust of a unique-looking fox in Newfoundland.
The couple has built a relationship that allowed the photographer to capture the stunning photographs of the wild creature in its natural habitat.
Crossbred foxes are a fairly common sight among those who live in northern North America, where they are most abundant.
The beautiful creatures have orange fur mixed with dark stripes running down their back and shoulders.
“Our first meeting was calculated, I was focused on how not to disturb this wild animal, but at the same time, I was trying to assure him that I was not a threat”
“He was unsure of my presence, each cautious step forward was followed by two steps back, and our first meeting did not last long, I moved slowly, but when I prepared my camera and looked him in the eyes, he ran away. .”
Gaby worked hard to earn the animal’s trust as much as she could.
Luckily, Gaby did not give up and after repeated visits at dusk, the fox began to relax around the photographer and his camera.
“I am impressed with her beauty but also with her level of intelligence.”
“I have seen him hunting, hiding and retrieving food supplies and interacting with other foxes. He was extremely playful, especially with his brother, I gave them both names; Mat and Pat.
