‘However, overall complaints about soaps only make up 1.42 per cent of all of the Ofcom complaints in recent years, and the majority haven’t received enough to even make the list, indicating that it’s a much less polarising format than other TV shows!’
He added: ‘We also looked into the number of Ofcom complaints made against British TV programmes, more generally, and found that Good Morning Britain was the most complained about show, with over 75,000 complaints made between 2020 and 2022.

One particular episode came under fire for its perceived tolerance of alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour.
Official figures released by British TV and radio regulator Ofcom place the ITV2 flagship at the top of a ten strong list, with many of its complaints relating to its July 17 episode.
Figures showed that 2,630 viewers complained about ‘alleged misogynistic behaviour by some of the male contestants’ during the show’s Movie Night.
In addition, 769 viewers complained about the July 18 episode of Aftersun, which saw host Laura Whitmore and panellists speculate on what happened between Ekin-Su Culculoglu and George Tasker in the bedroom.
The treatment of contestant Tasha Gouri during one of its best known challenges, was also called into question, with 1,523 complaining after the episode aired on July 19.
The professional dancer was repeatedly hit in the face with cream pies during a game of snog, marry, pie – a regular fixture on the show whereby contestants must pie the person they deem the most unappealing.
Ofcom said at that complaints specific to that July 17 episode had been about ‘alleged bullying among the contestants, and raised ongoing concerns about behaviour from the male contestants that they considered to be misogynistic’.
Over the show’s eight weeks on air, 7,482 complaints were made related to ‘alleged misogynistic and bullying behaviour’ by some of the male contestants.
Other complaints made were centred around ‘alleged misogyny, emotional abuse and coercive control’ by the male contestants.
In 2021, Love Island received a record breaking 24,763 Ofcom complaints over Faye Winter’s expletive-filled row with Teddy Soares.
Thousands of viewers took to the media watchdog to express their upset at the episode in which Faye let rip at Teddy in a furious rant after watching a clip of him in Casa Amor.
The video, shown during the islander’s Movie Night challenge, saw Teddy tell fellow contestant Clarisse Juliette that he was ‘sexually attracted’ to her.
Faye’s rant – branded ‘horrendous’, ‘abusive’, and ‘gaslighting’ by fans of the show – resulted in the most expletive-ridden episode ever, with reports that contestants swore 125 times, while Faye is said to have said ‘f**k’ 57 times.
And in the aftermath of the explosive scenes, Ofcom have confirmed the episode received nearly 25,000 complaints.
An Ofcom representative told The Mirror: ‘We’ve received a high volume of complaints about last week’s Love Island, which is consistent with a trend of growing complaints about high-profile TV shows.
‘We are carefully assessing the complaints we’ve received, before deciding whether or not to investigate.’
This series previously saw a high of 4,000 complaints following the episode in which Faye was shown a postcard which suggested that Teddy had cheated on her, with viewers fuming that it was ‘misleading’.

‘We have dedicated welfare producers and psychological support on hand at all times who monitor and regularly speak to all of the Islanders in private and off camera, especially if someone appears to be upset.
‘All the Islanders are therefore fully supported by the professionals on-site and by their friends in the villa.’
They concluded: ‘Islanders can always reach out and talk to someone if they feel the need.’
